29th of August, 1587. Croatoan Island.

You had spent the morning looking for a proper gift for the Croatoan chief. Even though you had made a friendly connection with the Croatoans, you wanted to make sure that they would offer you help. Steven had suggested to give them one of your rifles, but you thought that would not be wise. Eventually, one of the women who came with you to Roanoke, had offered to give you her necklace as a gift for the Croatoan chief. You gladly accepted her offer, and set out for Croatoan with Steven, Bailey, and Manteo, who spoke the Croatoan language. When you arrived at the wooden entrance of the village, you were greeted with kindness, and offered food. You and the men went with the chief to his cabin, and ate until you were full. Then you presented the chief the necklace, and he looked intrigued by its material. Manteo explained to him that it was a gift from our colony, and that you came to ask for his help. After he explained to the chief that you lacked supplies, and could not grow crops in this climate, the chief gazed at all of the men. Then the chief called to his men to bring us food. They came with large amounts of corn and beans. Filled with gratitude, we thanked the chief. This was enough food to last us quite some time. Walking back to the entrance of the village, the chief called us, and spoke with Manteo. Manteo translated his words: ''The chief offers to show us their ways of growing corn and beans, and how they catch fish.'' [option] You had enough food to last you a while, so you did not think it was necessary to start providing for yourselves right away. And besides, you could always go back and ask for more. You were also counting on White to return with more supplies. ''Thank him,'' you said to Manteo, ''but we are going back to Roanoke now.'' ->file end9 [option] That would be very useful. ''We would like to learn from him.'' You bowed to the chief to show that you accepted the offer. ''Thank him, Manteo.'' ->file 1.13
